British sports car maker Morgan has come up with the ultimate toy for junior enthusiasts of the make - a pedal car based on the company’s original three-wheeler. The Supersport Junior Pedal Car is a stylish replica built to 2/3 scale and uses materials such as aluminium to retain the legendary power-to-weight ratio of the full-size car. Morgan says the pedal trike is designed for 6 to 13-year-olds.
The mini-Morgan features three-speed transmission, working lights and suspension and will be built alongside the full-size models at the Malvern factory in southwest England. Morgan says it will be building only 500 of the exclusive trike from August 2009 to mark the centenary of the company founded by vicar’s son HFS Morgan one hundred years ago. The first Morgan three-wheeler made its appearance at the Olympia motor show in London in 1910 and went on to establish the reputation of the Worcestershire-based maker. Prices for the pedal car start at 2,510 pounds (3,700 dollars) - for an extra 250 pounds customers can order the model with hand-stitched leather upholstery.

Because the car will be run on the road, your body work and paneling must be sufficient that it is easily visible to other vehicles.
Bicycle handlebars are the simplest design, but a steering wheel from a go-cart or a front wheel from an old tricycle will work just as well.
If you decide to build your own frame, the easiest way to determine the right spacing for your body is to sit on the floor with your legs stretched out and use chalk to mark the dimensions to fit your body.
Ample reflectors should be placed on the front rear and sides of your pedal car, even if it is only being driven during the day.

Early pedal cars, like this one made by the Kirk—Latty Manufacturing Company, reflected the design of their larger gasoline driven counterparts: they often didn’t come with lights and, before the self starter engine became standard, they had cranks on the front. This Kirk-Latty’s lights seem to have been added to the car at a later date (and they look like they are a product of the 1930s). There is no crank, it seems likely the car was manufactured before in the late 1910s or early 1920s.

Audi brings out the Type C again as a pedal car. This Limited-edition collector’s item with only 999 cars built spearheads quattro GmbH’s line of lifestyle articles.

A body made from aluminium, handcrafted leather trim and an extraordinary design – the vehicle sends Hubert Waltl, Head of Audi Toolmaking, into a rapture the instant he lays eyes on it: “This car is something really special.” And, indeed, the car in front of him is no ordinary car – it’s the Auto Union Type C pedal car which AUDI AG has brought onto the market as an absolute first. No other car manufacturer offers a pedal car built so elaborately and to such a high standard.
How did Audi stumble upon this idea? “We needed a highlight for our collection which conveys the brand message and, at the same time, is spectacular enough to find buyers,” says Katharina Wicker, Head of Audi design – Lifestyle Articles. And this was how the idea came about to design a pedal car that mirrors the company’s heritage at first sight. The Type C Grand Prix racing car provided the ideal blueprint for doing this. The Auto Union Silver Arrow dominated the world of motor racing in 1936, racking up a total of ten Grand Prix victories. Furthermore, the Type C is one of the best-selling heritage models in the range of Audi miniatures. The pedal car will therefore be an exhibition piece for “grown-up” fans too.
